Hurricane Patricia will be the most powerful hurricane to hit South America in history.
"The strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Americas is bearing down on Mexico's Pacific coast, threatening a "potentially catastrophic" landfall.Mexican authorities have begun evacuating residents ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Patricia.
The storm is comparable to Typhoon Haiyan, which killed 6,300 people in the Philippines in 2013, the World Meteorological Organization says.
A state of emergency has been declared in three states in Patricia's path.
The category five hurricane is expected to make landfall on Friday afternoon or evening, with winds of 325km/h (200mph)."
There will be thousands of homes destroyed and all those families will be in desperate need of shelter. Shelterbox is a non profit that does the following "The ShelterBox solution in disaster response is as simple as it is effective. We deliver the essentials people need to survive and begin to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of a disaster.
ShelterBox aid is tailored to a disaster but typically includes a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and children’s activity pack."
The top priority of many aid organizations is to provide food, water and medical care to help people survive the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Without protection from the elements, survivors are at a higher risk as they await nourishment or medical attention. We recognized that little or no assistance was given in terms of proper shelter to help them through the first few days, weeks and months as they tried to rebuild their lives. Today, ShelterBox assists disaster survivors during the critical period following a disaster but preceding reconstruction.
To help them begin to rebuild their lives and communities, we deliver shelter and lifesaving supplies to the most vulnerable people.
Highly trained ShelterBox response teams distribute aid on the ground, working closely with local organizations, international aid agencies and a global network of volunteers. "
To help the people who will be struggling for months after this hurricane in Mexico SPNFamilyCentral started a fundraiser on the Shelterbox page to raise $3000.00. This will provide three complete shelterboxes. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but for those families it will mean the world. I have no cool art things or wristbands to give out, I just want to help people. Please donate what you can and share the link if you can't. Thank you SPNFamily!
